A new iPhone app, Pictureshow and a trip to Capitola with the family. It was an amazing day over there and a fantastic end to our three day weekend.
PS, I would not have found this app if it were not for the great work of hibiscus. Check out hibuscus' work at:

181/365 - double cherries
The first day of the year that actually felt like summer started with a huge platter of locally grown cherries...yum!

180/365 - hula madness
Love the hula hoops and the collection of shoes outside the jump house...PS, Happy 5th birthday Joshie Woshie!

179/365 - thistle man, he played one
Funny how I am noticing the changing of the seasons so much more since I started the 365. The mustard bloomed first, then the poppies, then the thistles, but now they are starting to go to seed. I had to catch one before all of them were gone. I wonder what is coming next?

178/365 - two weeks...
¡Solo dos semanas mas! OK, my soccer skills are pretty much nil, and I am not an avid follower of the game, but when World Cup time rolls around I get pretty stoked. Who's it gonna be?
177/365 - the freak
My good friend scored us some pretty sweet seats at the Giants game last night. Unfortunately, our two-time Cy Young award winner was not looking too sharp...

174/365 - the girls
Impromptu photo shoot! I should have opted for a little deeper depth of field and a little less on the ISO. Still, A pretty indicative shot of how our weekends go...

173/365 - waiting for maddie
My oldest has a great friend at school who was home sick for most of last week. Today we had her and her family over for dinner and she could not wait. She spent about two hours waiting on the front porch for her to arrive...

172/365 - friday soccer
Most Fridays in spring, a group of students and teachers get together and play pick-up soccer after school lets out. I am not a stellar player at all (and playing against some of our varsity kids makes that even more clear) but I really enjoy these afternoons. It's a chance to see kids shine and just let go of the week.
PS, Scored a goal! Woot! (No one needs to know that I was actually trying to center the ball...)

171/365 - baby blur
I thought the early morning light might work, but it was just a few stops too light. I figured I would just dump the shots, but once I saw this one I really liked it. Perhaps it is that the past year has felt just like this. I can't believe she is almost one...
170/365 - it takes tools to tango
Day of the Arts today at school and I talked my way in to doing a throwing demonstration. I have only been throwing for a couple of months, so having 30 students and teachers watching me was pretty intimidating....

169/365 - multi-v web
My favorite math class ever was multivariable calculus. As I was walking to my car this morning I saw a web, bejeweled with little drops of water that reminded me of one of the graphs I made (the saddle point is just slightly left of mid frame). I am officially a geek.

168/365 - pre-morning rituals
After changing and dressing the baby, our oldest likes to help out by carrying the little miss to her seat at our table. The square crop was not a stylistic decision, but a way to remove all the scattered toys and clothes I probably should have cleaned up..
167/365 - why didn't we buy these?
Farmers market in Campbell today with the girls. Not sure why a pint of these guys didn't make the trip home with us...

166/365 - bubble bokeh
"Water Day" at Y World of Sports. The teachers were setting up the slip and slide and my wife was blowing bubbles, so I decided to crank out a few out-of-focus shots to see what bubble bokeh would look like.

159/365ALT - seis ojitas lindas
Cuddle time with the three girls at about 7:00am on a Saturday. I catch myself looking forward to the time when they want to sleep in, but then I think about how much I will miss these moments...
#165/365 - mixed bouquet
I have to be honest, I had absolutely zero time to shoot today. I taught straight through the four periods today and then printed out the cover of our volleyball team's end-of-season DVD. Then it was off to our year-end banquet. This is a little iPhone/Camerabag shot of the bouquet we were giving to our team mom for all of her help this year.
#164/365 - rose swirl II
A few days back, a fellow teacher at my school saw me photographing some wildflowers on the hill behind our school. I don't know this guy very well, but he proceeded to tell me that he was somewhat of a "photo snob" and one of his great pet peeves was photographs of flowers. "So cliche," he said, "You know, find something interesting to shoot."
I think what bugs me most is that I let his comment affect me so much. I don't know if this guy even owns a camera, but I have been in a funk over the past four or five days. I began to question every shot and was quickly losing the love for this 365 project.
Honestly, if the comment had come from my photo teacher, an art teacher, or one of my flickr contacts, at least it would have come from someone whose opinion I respected. I need criticism to get better, for sure, but it really was not cool hearing it from this guy...
Driving to work today, however, I started my comeback. I resolved to start shooting even more "cliche" flower shots. Yes, I know every amateur photographer has taken that shot above, but there is a reason why they take it. IT LOOKS GREAT! Plus, while taking this shot, I had to think about controlling the depth of field with shutter speed and aperture adjustments, composition and lighting.
So to my colleague...Thanks! Perhaps shooting cliche will help me become the photographer I really want to be.

#163/365 - this ol' thistle
The light was leaving and the wind was coming up. The original image was not great, so I processed the hoo-haw out of it and actually liked the results. When life gives you thistles...
162/365 - pressure treated
I was looking to shoot some patterns today. This ended up the coolest, although I wish a bit more of the copper-blue had shown through...
161/365 - bench blasts
Here I was there with my two oldest daughters, the bench and a camera...the perfect setup for a HBM shot...and all they wanted to do was take turns flying off the bench. Sweet!
#160/365 - happy mother's day
My girls love helping people open gifts nearly as much as opening their own. Here's wishing a happy Mother's Day to all mommies out there!

159/365 - hula happiness
At the YMCA's Y-World of Sports, G dominated the hula Hoop and was quite proud of herself. I could have used some fill lighting and maybe a little less on the shutter speed to give that hoop a touch of motion blur, but her expression was pure.

158/365 - teach-er appreciation day
My daughters made cards for teacher appreciation day. Gabby ran out of room on her's, so the "er" went on the inside. She found it quite hilarious. Me too!

157/365 - man hug
Man Hug Rule #5 - It is appropriate to hug another dude after scoring a goal, especially the game-winning goal...Nice shot Lenky!
156/365 - not my fault
A colleague is looking to purchase a camera, so I let her borrow mine for the day. She forgot to drop it back in my office, so... Another iPhone shot for the day. She is pregnant and super nice so I can't be mad. Just roll with it. This is a shot of a flower arrangement my daughters put together with flowers from our garden. I almost forgot to grab a shot today, taking this at 10:00pm...my closest call so far.

155/365 - finalmente
Ordered a used D40 and was waiting for it to finally make it to my house. UPS tracking had it being delivered today, but it was past 6:30 and still no delivery. Finally, right as the sun was setting, the man in brown showed up. Just enough time to snag a shot or two. D40, or "little man" as I call him, should be a solid little fill in until my D80 returns...
