I went to a memorial service for a former student at our school. 24 is far too young. The father gave an amazing talk that made me think about my own three children. So here is my promise to them:

I will always love you. Nothing will ever stop that love. It will be there when you are bad, when you are good, whether you are near or far. I will love you regardless of where life's road leads you, no matter who you choose to be. I will always be here for you when you need me, and even when you don't. I will always love you.

58/365 - First Infrared Shot

Last night I got the Hoya R72 filter. Don't worry, my IR photography won't always look like this, I just wanted to test the shutter speed out. Thought the sun spot effect was surreal, however, so I made it my shot of the day.

50/365 - it's all in the eyes

Before I became a parent, I never really imagined that each child would have such a unique personality. Our three are so different in every possible way. The oldest (top) is all heart and would cuddle all day if she could, the youngest (middle) is happy-go-lucky, and our middle (botton) is our super-bright comedian. You can see it all in their eyes...

Decided to give the DSLR a rest today. It was tired after 48 straight days..can't believe tomorrow is day 50.

last day in carpinteria

Big storm hitting the coast today, so we took a morning walk and then packed and bolted back to Norcal. Last shot before we left...

I loved chewing on the sour stems of these flowers when I was a kid....

five hearts

My 6-year-old is always making tiny art projects to ornament our home. This one appeared on the glass door of our shower one day. A heart for mom, dad and our three girls. For all the heartache that comes with being a parent, these little gifts make it all worthwhile.

great oak and cloud

In the summer I can't wait to see clouds, but I never remember to appreciate them enough when they actually are here.

11 January 2010

grasses on a hike

The semester is coming to an end and I was frantically grading away when I decided to take a little break. Nice to teach in such a beautiful space.

10 January 2010

rainbow grass

Went on a photo shoot in my front yard and was heading back in when this ornamental grass caught my eye. the middle stalk has an amazing texture that I did not even notice until I popped the image into Photoshop.

09 January 2010

first shot

This was Alex's first shot in a basketball practice. She made it and had a blast. Gabby smiled the whole time as well. A great day.

keep your camera with you

When I was preparing for this 365 project, I read somewhere that you should always have your camera with you. I arrived at work today and figured I would just leave it in the car, since I had a full slate of classes to teach. About 30 feet from my car, I noticed a ruckus going on in the trees above me. A huge flock of birds were making camp and I had no camera in tow. After a quick jaunt to my car and a few shots, I now have a new commitment to bring my camera everywhere I go.

foggy drive

A little bit of fog on the way to work today. Not too happy about the graininess of the shot. ISO was at 400, so that was not a problem...hmmmm.

06 January 2010

three little birds

Don't worry about a thing...These three little birds were across the street from the gas station I was filling up at...Officially 1/10 of the way complete now. Yay

05 January 2010

mother and daughter

Each day, driving to work I see these two fabulous oaks. I would love a photograph that truly captures how magnificent they are. This is my first attempt, I don't feel I have even come close, so there will be more...

04 January 2010

let the swim begin

Back to school, so stuck in my class all day, ran home with Michele to take the kids to swim. Gabby is in the advanced class and they worked her pretty hard. She was a trooper, though.

03 January 2010

future daisy chain

Spent most of the last day of Christmas break holed up in my classroom, grading exams and preparing for school to begin again tomorrow. When I finally got home, we went to the park. In the summer we pick these guys and make bracelets, necklaces and tiaras...can't wait!

02 January 2010

a heart from alex

Went up to Pinecrest lake for a snow day today with my four girls. Little alex sent me this heart. Gotta love that!

01 January 2010

pack up the holidays

Today I spent about 10 hours straight in our garage cleaning up. I grabbed my camera to take a few shots of stuff I was planning to throw on Craigslist and saw my two oldest putting away the Christmas decorations. You can see the three of us in the reflection.
